AUTUMN GATHERING.

To me, the start of school marks the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Not a big issue for me since fall is my favorite season. Autumn fashion is really the best out of all the seasons. Rich colors, layering, textures, more practicality with different fabrics, etc etc. I'm guilty of massive overkill of sheer chiffon during the summer.

Before school and work start tightening my schedule, I took some time to do some autumn fashion inspiration gathering with the September issues.

Two sangrias and I lot of dog-earing later, I have nine fall outfits planned out and hung up. A lot of black, grey, white, and jewel tones. Perfectly fine with me.

I'm just dying for the weather to drop another fifteen, twenty degrees. I'm growing tired of the sticky heat. The only thing I'm going to miss are the fruity summer drinks.

THIS SUMMER, I.

I've never really been into hats, outside of the typical floppy wide-brim in the summer. But I've been liking baseball caps recently. Like oversize sunglasses, they're a great way of subtly telling people to leave you and your migraine alone. My favorite one thus far is the black leather baseball cap. I know ASOS carried one at some point, but I can't find an actual store that's selling them. Topshop Unique had some of the models wear them for this spring, but I don't think they made it into the stores. It's too bad. Thank goodness people on Ebay and Amazon carry massive amounts of them.

Also, I've been liking these sneakers from H&M. I picked up them up in New York as kind of a desperate buy when it started pouring rain and I was in a pair of heels that were basically attacking the skin on my feet. I wore them that one time and then just forgot about them until today. Surprisingly, they're not even scuffed.
Still drooling over these MMM babies though. Flat shoes that aren't boots aren't really common in my closet, but I've been kind of put off by wedge sneakers. I was really into them for a couple days and now I can't decide. It's like that one YSL and Puma sneaker/dress-shoe thing. Maybe it's better to be all-sneaker or all-wedge with nothing in between.

You know it's a good piece if you can't tell if it's to be worn or if it's supposed to be used to open a wine bottle / hold your car together. (All pieces from asos.com)

I don't even like the taste of coconuts. But they're a very nice looking fruit?/nut?/seed? Enlighten me, please?

Pretty flowers to mourn the end of summer break. Last year of high school starts tomorrow. First day of classes is always every teacher in every class making every student give the 'This summer, I..." narrative. The only ones that are ever any good are the ones that end with "And that's why I'm on crutches for the next three months."

TEA AND SWEETS.

It's been a long time since I've done any type of photo post / lifestyle post, so I weeded out the food photos for this post and kept the others for some other time.

P.S. I use Sorted Food for all my recipes.

Another day, another cup of tea, and another muffin.

Fall fashion inspiration gathering with some snacks. Blueberry cheesecake recipe via the geniuses at Sorted Food.

I top all the muffins I bake with craisins because everything else just rolls off. Damned gravity just doesn't want me to enjoy my blueberry muffin with blueberries on top.

Birthday cheesecake. We don't eat actual birthday cake in my family.
Hosted a little afternoon tea for the girls. Perfect excuse for me to bake more unhealthy treats.

Nothing better than macarons and tea. Very sweet gift from a friend - along with the lovely macaron box below.

"BLACK IS SUCH A HAPPY COLOR."

It's not often I have a look without some black in it. It's definitely the most worn color on this blog. Burgundy, white and grey come right after. If I had to pick just one color to wear for the rest of my life, I'd be perfectly fine with black. Something about black just draws me in. The same way I'm addicted to black leather and sheer chiffon.
Weaknesses I'm not willing to change.

WING.

WING.

I really can't stand bugs. All bugs. Inclusive. Butterflies, ladybugs, ants - whatever. When I found these shorts at Ted Baker London in Bloomingdales, I thought it was some sort of abstract graphic or feathers or something. It wasn't until I actually hung them up and looked at them when I realized I just bought a pair of shorts that were covered in bugs.

But we make do.
I'll just work on keeping my mind off the fact that my shorts have big crawly butterflies on them. With their scaly little bodies (not sure, but I imagine they're probably scaly under a microscope) and twitchy multiple legs and black little eyes. And eughhh.
The original title of this post was 'butterfly garden'. But picturing a garden of butterflies makes me want to hurl.

This post contains a lot of sentence fragments. Please forgive.
On another note, I'm turning 16 tomorrow.

SEA & SUN.

SEA & SUN.

Had a little family trip to the beach.
I succeeded in evening out my shorts tan.

Luckily I was able to do an outfit post while we were there. Been running out of content. I just never get to take photos during my days now.
I'm wearing this white underwire swimsuit that I picked up at American Apparel during my trip to New York. As a cover-up over the swimsuit, I have on this grey maxi skirt that I've completely over-worn and abused this summer + this tunic that I've been waiting to wear to the beach or the pool. And I have on my two summer favorites that I wore in my previous post as well.

JEWEL.

JEWEL.

There are two types of actual colors that I like. Either muted darks or rich, jewel tones. Burgundy, deep green, and royal blue are my favorites. Mostly because they still look good with my very yellow shade of dead during the winter, when I wear jewel tones the most.

This pretty silk number was gifted to me by my cousin. It's such a nice piece for the summer and I think it'll be put to good use with the black and blue trend this fall/winter.

I like when food coordinates with my look.

Brunch with Sarah.

Some current favorites. 1. I'm normally not into feline animals, but because my sign is Leo, I figured that'd be good enough reason to get this necklace. 2. Recently purchased lipstick. Dior Addict Extreme in Bellissima. I'm shit at describing specific colors, but it's basically a pink based red. 3. Divine cologne from Jo Malone that I will do a quick review on in a moment.

(This is going to be long. I basically ramble on about what I like, don't like, kind of like and kind of don't like like like like)

My fragrance preferences are pretty defined. I like clean, crisp scents that are either unisex or bordering on masculine. Nothing with florals and light on the fruit. Citrus is alright, because the majority of men's colognes have citrus and I've just dealt with it, but I prefer scents in the woody category. Calvin Klein does some perfumes and colognes that I like well enough. But I wanted something stronger and a little more woody.
In sampling basically every single Jo Malone fragrance, I somehow ended up liking Black Vetyver Cafe the best. It's not quite what I normally like. It doesn't have a fresh or clean edge at all, which is usually one of my main points. It's categorized as a spicy scent. As the name insinuates, there's a strong vetyver and coffee scent. The thing that really drew me to it, though, is that it reminds me of Chinese herbal medicine. Not the real thing I'd-rather-wear-Crocs-than-drink-this type of stuff, but the way the medicine smells when it's all packaged up and in a box. Surprisingly something that I don't mind wearing on my skin. I would definitely prefer it to be less smoky, though. This particular one also fades very, very, very quickly. I'm going to need to get a sample size to keep in my bag throughout the day.
The salesgirl also gave me a few other scents that she recommended layering on top. But because the scent is already a bit heavier than I like them, I'd rather keep it alone.

So basically, if you like fresh, clean, or floral scents, this one is not for you. If you like more heavy, rich, complex scents, then you might want to give this one a try. I like it enough and I think it'll be really nice in the colder months.

BLACK.

BLACK.

I'm back home already, but here's one final NYC post. Looking through all the photos I've downloaded onto my computer now, I wish I'd taken more. I had such an amazing time in New York (big thank you to the Maurice family!

I've spent most of my sick days in bed watching movies set in NYC. Made my way through Taxi Driver, When Harry Met Sally, and Wall Street.

Happy August,
xx
